Questions & Answers
What is the difference between Counselling, Psychotherapy and Hypnotherapy?
Counselling – short-term talking therapy that focuses more on specific issues and/or life events, it lasts generally 6-12 sessions.
Psychotherapy – longer-term talking therapy, looking more at the past and explore how this has influenced you and your life and the way you relate to others.
Hypnotherapy– working with your subconscious, this targets present issues as well as ones rooted in the past.
How do we decide what is right for me?
We discuss at our first meeting what you need support with, I tailor my work to what my clients need. We can then decide together what is best for you, if counselling, psychotherapy and/or hypnotherapy.
Hypnotherapy in particular, is suitable for clients who have a particular goal they want to achieve, I can discuss this with you.
How often do I need to come?
For counselling I recommend we begin with six sessions, one session per week, but this is not rigid and you can be adapted depending on your circumstances and need.
For hypnotherapy I recommend a minimum of two sessions, especially if you have not had hypnotherapy before. Again, this depends on your needs.
Can I have more than one session per week? Can I have less?
Sometimes we might feel particularly challenged and in need or additional support, so I can offer, depending on my availability, longer sessions or additional weekly sessions as well as telephone or email support.
Depending on your circumstances, we might also agree on fortnightly sessions too, particularly when you are coming to the end of long-term therapy.
Where do sessions take place?
I offer sessions in-person in my therapy room in Teddington, on-line and as a walk & talk at different local parks, gardens and the Thames riverside. Hypnotherapy is best done in-person, although I can also provide you with recordings to use at home in your own time.
How long will it take?
As we are all individuals and different, this is difficult to say. I work to empower you to make this decision for yourself and encourage all my clients to be independent. We review our work together as we go, to ensure you are getting what you need, with the ultimate go of ending when you are ready. Some clients need a few sessions, some feel they need much more, it’s personal and individual and my aim is to support you throughout.
How much will it cost?
